Insurance

I am considered an out-of-network provider, and my services are covered by most insurance companies as such I will provide a monthly statement called a "superbill" that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. I suggest asking your insurance company the following questions to determine your coverage.

  • Does my plan cover mental health services (e.g., individual psychotherapy, CPT code 90834; couples/family therapy CPT code 90847)?

  • If so, what percentage of the cost is covered for out-of-network providers?

  • Is there a session limit? How many sessions are covered per calendar year?

  • Is precertification required?

  • Do I have a deductible? How much is it? Has it been met?

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

FAQs

Why Don’t You Accept Insurance?

I strongly believe that an insurance carrier should not dictate your therapy needs. Sex and couples therapy is often deemed “not necessary” by insurance carriers and they will not cover the service. I will provide you a super bill to submit to your carrier where you can be reimbursed. Companies like Mentaya and Thrizer also offer convenient and hassle free options for out-of-pocket reimbursements. For more information contact me.

How Long do we Work Together?

While most issues are not resolved within one or two sessions you will determine how long treatment should last. Most often to have the most effective chance of success weekly sessions are needed at the beginning of treatment. Some clients see me weekly for 10 or more sessions and then start feeling good enough to decrease sessions to biweekly or even monthly check ins.

For insomnia therapy the length of treatment is 5-6 sessions over 6 weeks.
